An Idea Inspired By Popsicle Panniculitis
Two doctors, Dr. Rox Anderson and Dr. Dieter Manstein, developed the idea for CoolSculpting. The two Harvard Medical School doctors observed the phenomenon known as “popsicle panniculitis,” which causes the loss of cheek fat while sucking a frozen popsicle. They wondered if applying cold to other parts of the body could have the same reaction.
Dr. Anderson and Dr. Manstein performed experiments and determined that fat is more sensitive to cold than nerves, muscle, skin, or any other type of body tissue. They continued their investigation and identified the specific temperature that enables maximum fat destruction without damaging any other surrounding tissue.
